I’m in a transitional phase these days, working out new tunings and finally getting into grooves, with a long gestation curve expected before the next releases.
So I’m thinking I ought to share the occasional jam session. I don’t want people to wonder if I’ve disappeared or (even worse) joined a country band…
So here’s a groove I worked up today, using a bunch of one-hit samples recorded last weekend. It starts with the large frame drum in 5, then the Udu in 3, then the small djembe in 4. If this even slightly resembles a group of drummers playing live, then it succeeds.
It seems to work, sonically at least, so now I’ve got to record a whole lot more one-hits, flams and this ‘n thats. This is the approach I used on the first three tracks from the Memory Palace album.
Enjoy!
